Of when Englan […]

Alegend is sung
Of when England was young
And knights were brave and bold
The good king had died
And no one could decide
Who was rightful heir to the throne
It seemed that the land
Would be torn by war
Or saved by a miracle alone
And that miracle appeared
In London town
The sword
In the stone
And below the hilt in letters of gold…
were written these words:
“Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone and anvil…
is rightwise king born of England.”
Though many tried for the sword with all their strength…
none could move the sword nor stir it.
So the miracle had not worked.
And England was still without a king.
And in time, the marvellous sword was forgotten.
This was a dark age…
without law and without order.
Men lived in fear of one another…
for the strong preyed upon the weak.
A dark age indeed!
Age of inconvenience.
No plumbing…
没有电
no electricity…
no nothing!
Oh, hang it all!
Hang it all!
Oh, now what? Now what?
Leave, leave off! Leave off!
Oh, you, you, you fiendish chain you!
Everything complicated.
One big medieval mess.
Now, uh, let me see.
He should be here in, I’d say half an hour.
Who? Who? I’d like to know who.
I told you, Archimedes. I am not sure.
All I know is that someone will be coming. Someone very important.
Oh, pig feathers!
Fate will direct him to me so that l, in turn…
may guide him to his rightful place in the world.
Huh! And-And you say he will arrive in half an hour?
Ha! Well, we’ll just see.
And you will, Archimedes. You will.
嗷
Ow!
He’ll be, uh, a boy.
Small boy.
Eleven, 12 years old.
And a scrawny little fellow.
Oh, no, no. That can’t be the one.
Surely not. Why, that big lad must be close onto 20.
Ah. There he is.
The scrawny little fellow about 12.
He’s a regular little grasshopper.
Look at him go.
And where-where would you guess he is at this very moment?
I am not guessing, Archimedes!
I know where he is!
Less than a mile from here just beyond the forest.
And right on schedule, if-if all goes well.
Quiet, Wart. I’m tryin’ to be.
And nobody asked you to come along in the first place.
I’m not even movin’. Shut up.
Aha! Here we go.
Oh, what a set-up.
Right smack through the old gizzard.
Whoa. What? Oh!
Why, you clumsy, little fool!
Oh, Kay, please, I’m sorry. I couldn’t help it. Please.
If I ever
If I ever get my hands on, on you, I’ll, I’ll ring…
your scrawny little neck, so help me, I will.
I’ll get the arrow, Kay. I’m sure I can find it.
Don’t tell me you’re going in there.
Why, it’s swarming with wolves.
I’m not afraid.
Well, go ahead. It’s your skin, not mine.
Go on, go on.
There it is. Oh, there it is.
Whoa! What-Oh!
好吧
Well.
So, you, you did drop in for tea after all.
Oh, you are a bit late, you know?
Oh, l, I am? Yes.
Now, my name is Merlin.
Come, come, who are you, my lad?
Oh, my name’s Arthur, but everyone calls me Wart.
噢
Oh.
Oh, what a perfect stuffed owl.
Stuff-l, l, I beg your pardon!
He’s alive and he talks.
And certainly a great deal better than you do.
Oh, come, Archimedes. Come, come now.
I, I want you to meet the Wart.
Now, you must forgive him. He’s only a boy.
Boy? Boy? Well, I see no boy.
Oh, I’m sorry that l-That’s all right.
He’s much too sensitive.
Sensitive? Huh? Who? What? What?
Oh, well. How did you know that I was–
Oh, th-that you would be dropping in?
Well, I happen to be a wizard. A soothsayer.
A prognosticator. I have the power to see into the future.
Centuries into the future!
I, I’ve even been there, lad. And I’ve seen all these things.
They’re, they’re only plans and small models, of course, you know.
Now, this for instance is a steam locomotive.
There she goes. Pretty good, eh?
Now, that won’t be invented for hundreds of years!
Oh. You mean you can see everything before it happens?
Yes, everything.
Uh-uh, uh-uh. Everything, Merlin?
Uh-No, no, not everything.
I, uh, I admit I didn’t know whom to expect for tea.
But as you can see…
I’ve figured the exact place.
You’re very clever, sir.
Y es. Well, never mind the, the sir.
Just, uh, plain Merlin will do.
Now, would, would you care for sugar?
Oh, yes I would, please.
All right. Sugar. Sugar?
No, no, manners, manners, manners! Guests first, you know that!
All right. Say when, lad.

Hello, Mrs. MacGruder. Oh, hello, Miss Daniels.
Have you ever seen so many gulls? What do you suppose it is?
There must be a storm at sea. That can drive them inland, you know.
I was hoping you’d be a little late. You see, he hasn’t arrived yet.
– Oh, but you said 3:00. – Oh, I know.
I know. I’ve been calling all morning.
Oh, Miss Daniels, you have no idea.
They are so difficult to get. Really, they are.
We have to get them from India, when they’re just baby chicks, and then…
This one won’t be a chick, will he?
Certainly not. Oh, no, certainly not. This will be a full-grown mynah bird. Full-grown.
And he’ll talk? Well, yes, of course he’ll…
Well, no, you’ll have to teach him to talk.
I guess maybe I’d better phone. They said 3:00.
Maybe it’s the traffic. I’ll call.
Would you mind waiting? Well, maybe you’d better deliver him.
Let me give you my address.
Oh, well, all right,
but I’m sure they’re on the way.
Would you mind if I called?
请便
No. All right.
I wonder if you could help me. What?
I said, I wonder if you could help me.
Yes. What is it you’re looking for, sir? Lovebirds.
Lovebirds, sir?
Yes. I understand there are different varieties.
Is that true? Well, yes, there are.
Well, these are for my sister for her birthday, you see,
and as she’s only gonna be 11, I wouldn’t want a pair of birds
that were too demonstrative.
I understand completely.
At the same time, I wouldn’t want them to be too aloof, either.
No, of course not.
Do you happen to have a pair of birds that are just friendly?
Oh, I think so. Now, then, let me see.
Aren’t those lovebirds?
No. Those are red birds.
I thought they were strawberry finches.
Yes. We call them that, too.
Here we are. Lovebirds.
Those are canaries.
Doesn’t this make you feel awful?
Doesn’t what make me feel…
Having all these poor, little innocent creatures caged up like this?
Well, we can’t just let them fly around the shop, you know.
No, I suppose not.
Is there an ornithological reason for keeping them in separate cages?
Well, certainly. It’s to protect the species.
Yes, that’s important, especially during the molting season.
That’s a particularly dangerous time.
Are they molting now? Oh, some of them are.
How can you tell?
Well, they get a sort of hangdog expression.
Yes, I see. Well, what about the lovebirds?
Are you sure you wouldn’t like to see a canary instead?
We have some very nice canaries this week.
好吧
All right.
All right. May I see it, please?
Oh, what is it? Oh!
There we are.
– Oh, there. – Wonderful.
Back in your gilded cage, Melanie Daniels.
What did you say?
I was merely drawing a parallel, Miss Daniels.
How did you know my name? A little birdie told me.
Good day, Miss Daniels. Madam.
Hey, wait a minute. I don’t know you.
Ah, but I know you. How?
We met in court. We never met in court or anyplace else.
That’s true. I’ll rephrase it. I saw you in court.
When?
Don’t you remember one of your practical jokes
that resulted in the smashing of a plate-glass window?
I didn’t break that window. Yes, but your little prank did.
The judge should’ve put you behind bars. What are you, a policeman?
I merely believe in the law, Miss Daniels. And I’m not too keen on practical jokers.
What do you call your lovebird story if not… Oh, I really wanted the lovebirds.
Well, you knew I didn’t work here. You deliberately…
Right. I recognized you when I came in.
I just thought you might like to know what it’s like to be on the other end of a gag.
What do you think of that? I think you’re a louse.
I am. Good day, Miss Daniels. Madam.
And I’m glad you didn’t get your lovebirds.
Oh, I’ll find something else. See you in court.
Who was that man? I have no idea.
They said the mynah bird would be here later this afternoon,
if you care to come back.
No, you’d better send him.
May I use this phone? Why, certainly.
Daily News? It’s Melanie Daniels. Could you get me the City Desk, please?
Just a minute, Mrs. MacGruder.
Hello, Charlie. Melanie.
I want you to do a favor for me.
No, this is a small one.
Pressure you? Why, Charlie, darling, would I try to pressure you?
Would you call the Department of Motor Vehicles for me?
Find out who owns this license plate,
W-J-H-0-0-3
W-J-H-0-0-3
Yes, a California plate.
No. I’ll stop off in a little while. Is Daddy in his office?
No, I don’t want to break in on a meeting. Tell him I’ll see him later.
Thank you, Charlie.
Do you have any lovebirds?
Well, no, not in the shop, but I can order them for you.
How soon? Well, when would you want them?
立刻
Immediately.
Well, I could probably have them here by tomorrow morning.
Would that be all right? That would be just fine.
Miss, is that for Mitch Brenner? Yes.
He’s not home. That’s all right.
He won’t be back until Monday, I mean, if those birds are for him.
– Monday? – Yes.

And so it fell out that at Pharsalia,
the great might and manhood of Rome met in bloody civil war,
and Caesar’s legions destroyed those of the great Pompey,
so that now only Caesar stood at the head of Rome.
But there was no joy for Caesar as in his other triumphs
for the dead which his legions counted and buried and burned,
were their own countrymen.
The smoke of burning Roman dead is just as black
and the stink no less.
It was Pompey, not I, who wanted it so.
Let what I have said be set down.
You may stand.
Do not try and impress me by looking either too penitent or too proud.
As field officers, you fought miserably for Pompey.
Men under your command will be permitted to enlist in my legions
and returned to Rome as Romans.
You shall have the same privilege.
I’m not magnanimous. Your names are marked. You’ll be watched.
First sign of treachery, you’ll be killed.
What is it, Flavius? Antony?
Oh, yes. Canidius. With news of Pompey, I hope.
Hail Caesar! Drink that in my name, Canidius.
To all Marc Antony’s cavalry, Caesar’s left wing and right arm.
What news of Pompey, or what’s left?
Pompey’s gone, Caesar.
Slipped through our fingers, disguised as a peddler.
Leaving most of his merchandise. Gone? Where?
He has a galley waiting at the coast.
Provision enough for Egypt, they say.
Egypt. Possibly. They owe him a great deal.
He’ll ask for sanctuary. Borrow money, borrow time.
I thought it was over. It seems it’s not.
Rufio, consult the augurers. I want to know.
In Egypt, will Pompey face me at last?
But surely Caesar will now return to Rome!
I must go to Egypt in any case.
IKing Ptolemy and his sister have a civil war of their own,
intent on destroying each other, and in the process, Rome’s wheat.
That cannot be so urgent.
Let the Romans welcome great Caesar properly at last
in this greatest of his triumphs.
Triumph? Over what?
Over whom?
为谁
Canidius. Caesar?
Leave me the 10th and 12th.
Antony’s to take the rest to Rome.
When can he start? Whenever you say.
Then at once.
And in Rome, Marc Antony is to speak for Caesar.
His authority is not to be questioned.
His word will be yours.
As always, Caesar’s word is law.
Of course.
那当然
But remind him to keep his legions intact. They make the law legal.
Caesar.
And even as Caesar’s galleys sailed the great sea to Egypt,
it was happening that, just as the Romans,
so the Egyptians made war, one upon the other
for King ptolemy would no longer share the throne
with his sister Cleopatra,
but drove her from the city of Alexandria
and sought to destroy her.
We’ve arrived on their market day.
Once a week they’re allowed in the royal enclosure.
Where’s the guard of honor for Caesar?
Some representative of the royal or military?
We have the privilege of watching
Caesar battle through our marketplace.
Marcellus, a dozen front-rank men, swords only.
Clear a direct line to the palace steps.
Then as many more to keep it open.
It’s precisely what they hope we’d do,
Manhandle their people.
No. This is their market day, we will go marketing.
You’re not serious. We’ll shop our way to the palace.
Have you my money? Everything is to be paid for by coin.
Tell them to put away the swords and carry moneybags.
Olives. Oil of olives.
Ah, the wine of Samos.
How much for your wine? Four drachma.
Sixty of your wine for my men.
Pay him.
付钱
Pay him.
You said they’d push the people and make them angry.
Why aren’t they doing what you said they’d do?
Your king has asked a question, Lord Chamberlain.
The Romans have degenerated minds, Most High Majesty.
They do the unexpected.
Particularly one Roman.
Master of the unexpected.
But with so few men.
You all look so impressive.
Any one of you could be king.
His Divine Majesty, my Lord Ptolemy,
Lord of the Upper and Lower regions,
son of Ra, of Horus and of Thoth, beloved of.
Et cetera, et cetera. You welcome me.
And I, Gaius Julius Caesar,
Pontifex Maximus,
From the Senate and people of Rome, hail IKing Ptolemy.
And his sister and co-ruler, Queen Cleopatra?
They won’t tell you so, but Cleopatra’s dead.
She tried to kill me, and we chased her into the desert.
And there she died.
Whereas it is true that His Majesty’s sister
repeatedly plotted to have him killed,
it is not true that Cleopatra is dead.
Whereas it is true that she fled from Alexandria.
I seem to always interrupt you,
but the search for truth can go on and on.
Pothinus, is it not?
Lord Chamberlain and chief eunuch to IKing Ptolemy. An exalted rank.
Obtained not without certain, shall we say, sacrifice.
Theodotus, am I right?
Tutor to His Majesty in history, philosophy and ambition.
And Achillas. They say you’re a good soldier.
As one to another, where is Cleopatra?
With her army.
And how many of your men between her and Alexandria?
Enough. May I speak?
Surely you have come in peace.
And we present ourselves to you in warm and respectful welcome.
Our only problem being an internal one, of concern only to us,
why have you come, Caesar?
As we all know, when the father of both Ptolemy and Cleopatra died,
he named the two of them to rule jointly over Egypt.
Rome was appointed their guardian and the executor of his will.
I have come in the name of Rome to ask
why Cleopatra has been deposed

DIGITALLY RESTORED IN 2015
THE SILENCE
What does that mean?
I don’t know.
– What are you looking at? – Your feet.
Why?
They walk you around all the time, all by themselves.
Hadn’t we better try to get hold of a doctor?
– Are you cold? – A little.
The heat’s awful.
If I can rest now, we can leave tomorrow and be home by Monday.
Thank goodness for that.
I know you’re glad.
Is it stuffy in here?
是的…
So-so.
Open the window, then.
– May I shut the door? – Of course.
约翰
Johan.
Come here and scrub my back.
来啦
I’m coming.
That’ll do.
Go wait in the other room.
We’re going to take a nap.
Take off your shirt and trousers.
Come here.
请进
Yes?
Can you speak English? What about German?
进来
Yes
手
Hand.
Mommy.
Mommy.
Johan, do be quiet.
I told you I want to sleep.
Good day.
你真美
You’re quite tan.
I’m going out.
等一下
Wait.
What is it?
没什么
Nothing.
好吧
All right.
This is humiliating. I won’t stand for it.
I must keep my head.
I’m known as a level-headed person.
Dear God, please let me die at home!
That’s better.
I must try and eat something. My stomach feels empty.
How stupid of me to drink on an empty stomach.
Thank you.
Are you hungry?
You’re welcome to have some of my food.
Here, use this.
Are you homesick?
We’ll be home on Monday.
– May I go to Granny’s then? – Right away.
– How long will I stay there? – All summer and next winter, too.
You’ll go to school there.
Will Mommy come visit me?
当然会
Sure.
And Papa?
If he has the time.
But he’s a busy man.
That’s true.
But there are other nice things. Horses…
I’m pretty scared of horses.
Is that so?
Well, there are rabbits.
And you can go sailing with Uncle Persson.
The water’s lovely and green
and so clear you can see the bottom.
Cheer up.
Will you be there?
You can go fishing.
What do you catch?
Perch.
And sometimes dace.
I’ve had enough. Thank you.
别关门
Leave the door open please.
I’ll draw you a nice picture, if you like.
Don’t worry. Mommy will be back soon.
And I’m here.
Are you feeling better?
That’s good.
– What are you doing? – Working, as you can see.
Then mind your own business and don’t spy on me.
To think that I’ve been afraid of you.
When are we going home?
This evening perhaps.
Is Ester going with us?
I don’t know.
What’s this town called?
Timoka, I think.
What is that?
“Music”?
Can you give Johan some cigarettes? I’m all out.
Mine are on the desk.
– May I take a couple? – Sure.
Thank you very much.
I think the two of you should leave tonight.
We can’t leave you like this.
I’m not up to traveling yet. In a few days perhaps.
– What’s that music? – Bach.
It’s nice.
I’m going out for a while.
I can’t stand the heat in here.
I’ll be back soon.
Why don’t you read to Ester?
Go while your conscience lets you.
Johan, step outside for a while. I want to talk to Anna alone.
– Aren’t I going to read to you? – Later.
Mom, I’ll go out in the hallway.
Don’t go too far.
No, I won’t.
Where have you been?
Out for a walk.
Where did you go?
Oh, not far.
That was a long walk.
I didn’t want to come back here.
Why not?
I didn’t feel like it.
You’re lying.
Do you want to know all the details?
Just answer my questions.
Remember that winter ten years ago when we stayed with Father in Lyons?
I had been out with Claude.
You interrogated me that time, too.
Said you’d tell Father if I didn’t tell you everything.
In detail.
I went to the cinema and sat in a box at the back.
A man and a woman made love right in front of me.

Aussteigen.
开门
Tor aufmachen!
进去
Go inside.
赶快
Hurry UP.
走这边
This way.
赶快
Hurry up.
Yeah, this’ll do. Which one are you gonna have?
– I… – No, that’s mine.
上去
Allez… hup!
How far are the trees, Danny?
Over 200 feet.
Yeah, I’d say 300.
Long ways to dig.
We’ll get Cavendish to make a survey. I wish Big X were here.
Willie, you think X got away?
He’d have sent us word, somehow, if he had.
– Gestapo, you think? – Either that or he’s dead.
– Group Captain Ramsey? – Yes.
I am Hauptfeldwebel Strachwitz. Will you accompany me, please?
– I’ll look after your gear, sir. – Right.
Gruppenkommandeur Ramsey.
Good morning, Group Captain.
I’m Captain Posen, Von Luger’s adjutant.
Since you’re senior British officer,
you are to be liaison between the prisoners and the colonel.
He wishes to make clear to you certain matters of…
– The word is “policy”? – Yes.
Thank you.
进来
Herein.
Gruppenkommandeur Ramsey.
I am Colonel Von Luger. Please sit down.
Group Captain Ramsey, in the past four years
the Reich has been forced to spend an enormous amount of time,
energy, manpower and equipment
hunting down escaping prisoner-of-war officers.
Hmm. At least it’s rather nice to know you’re wanted, isn’t it?
For us it’s not a matter for levity. There will be no escapes from this camp.
Colonel Von Luger, it is the sworn duty of all officers to try to escape.
If they can’t, it is their duty to cause the enemy
to use an inordinate number of troops to guard them,
and their sworn duty to harass the enemy to the best of their ability.
Yes, I know.
The men under your authority have been most successful.
This man, Ashley-Pitt, for example.
Caught in the North Sea, escaped, recaptured, escaped, recaptured.
Archibald “Archie” Ives, eleven escape attempts.
Even tried to jump out of the truck coming here.
Dickes, William.
Known to have participated in digging of 11 escape tunnels.
Flight Lieutenant Willinski, four escapes.
MacDonald, nine. Hendley, the American, five.
Haynes, four. Sedgwick, seven. The list is almost endless.
One man here has made 17 attempted escapes.
Group Captain, this is close to insanity.
– Quite. – And it must stop!
Colonel, do you expect officers to forget their duty?
不是
No.
It is because we expect the opposite that we have brought you here.
This is a new camp.
It has been built to hold you and your men.
It is organized to incorporate all we have learned of security measures.
And, in me, you will not be dealing with a common jailer,
but with a staff officer personally selected for the task
by the Luftwaffe high command.
We have, in effect, put all our rotten eggs in one basket,
and we intend to watch this basket carefully.
Very wise.
You will not be denied the usual facilities.
Sports, a library, a recreation hall…
And, for gardening, we will give you tools.
We trust you to use them for gardening.
Devote your energies to these things.
Give up your hopeless attempts to escape.
And, with intelligent cooperation,
we may all sit out the war…
as comfortably as possible.
– What do you do here by the truck? – I’m stealing tools.
– For stealing tools, cooler. – I was only kidding.
– Oh, you’re American. – Yes, and you’re a German.
Of course. Why do you come to Germany?
– Why fight for England, your enemy? – Enemy? What are you talkin’ about?
– In 1812 they burned your Capitol. – That’s propaganda.
It’s in the history books. I read it.
Now go away from here. If you steal tools, cooler.
Yeah. No tools.
Hey, Virgil.
Hey, did you see the cooler?
Boy, is it ever a big one!
– I think they expect a lot of business. – Yeah.
Those two guys who were with us in the old camp, in hut 14, I can’t find them.
– You think the goons left ’em behind? – I guess.
What were their names? It was Jackson and, uh…
– And Dexter. – Dexter. That’s right.
I’m gonna see who else I can find. I’ll see you later.
Hey, Danny. Who are they?
Russian prisoners. They cut down trees.
– They keep them here? – No, they take them out.
Willie, cigarettes.
Danny and I have a blitz in mind. Could you put on a brief show for the goons?
Sure, man. What’ll it be? An all-out go?
– Choir practice? – Knuckles, eh?
– Yeah. Knuckles will be fine. – Give him the coat.
– What are you doing with my coat, mate? – What? It’s mine!
Are you pushing me?
That’s mine, you son of a…
Stop it! Stop this nonsense!
It’s all right, mate. We’re just having a friendly little argument.
– No more fighting. No more! – All right.
– Back in your huts. – Yes, sir.
You, too!
Get away! Get back in your huts!
Go on!
Hey, Hilts. Looks like there’s only one other American in the whole camp.
Some guy named Hendley in the RAF Eagle squadron.
– Hey, you got something goin’ already? – Shh!
See the way the goons got those towers placed?
– There’s a blind spot through the middle. – A blind spot?
A guy could stand at that wire and not be seen by either tower.
They’d never see me, especially at night.
– You’re crazy. – You think so? Let’s find out right now.
Now, the next step’s a little tricky.
– You’re not goin’ out there? – Not while they’re lookin’, I’m not.
I think I’ll take a little walk.
Abteilung marsch!
– Danny, you speak Russian? – Only one sentence.

Counselor! I’ve got him!
下来！
Down! You come down!
Down for good!
Forgive this early intrusion.
How are you?
I am a great admirer of yours. Honored to meet you.
May l?
Can I use your typewriter, sir?
Your arm, please. Relax it.
Your age? – 43.
So, what are you cooking up?
Another film without hope?
First time taking the cure? – Yes.
Take a deep breath.
请进
Come in.
I’m sorry. I’ll come back later. – No, do come in.
吸气
Breathe in.
Deeper.
Good morning… May I smoke?
Cough.
呼气
Breathe in.
You’ve already read it? – Yes.
吐气
Breathe.
And… what do you think?
Well, I made some notes, but we’ll talk later.
Your system is a bit worn out. You may get dressed now.
Nice looking girl. American, right?
You’ve got some fine merchandise there.
This treatment will do you good, you’ll see.
I’ll wait for you at the spring. – Yes, thank you.
先生！
Sir!
Sir, your glass.
Over here.
You want to talk about the film? – Yes, of course.
Fine. Just tell me if you’d like the producer to see my report.
Frankly, I wouldn’t want to be the one to cause you any trouble.
No, don’t worry. I’m the one who called you in.
On first reading it’s evident
that the film lacks a problematic, or a philosophical premise…
Would you like to sit down?
…making the film a series of gratuitous episodes,
perhaps amusing for their ambiguous realism.
One wonders what the authors are trying to say…
Are they trying to make us think? To scare us?
From the start, the action reveals a poverty of poetic inspiration.
Forgive me, but this might be the definitive proof
that cinema is 50 years behind all other arts.
The subject doesn’t even have the merits
of an ‘avant garde’ film, but it has all the shortcomings.
Here, my notes. I doubt they will be helpful.
It’s still a mystery that you’d think of me
for a collaboration that, frankly, I don’t think can work.
No, no. On the contrary. You’ll be most helpful.
You see, the film… I really want to make this film.
I postponed the shoot for two weeks because…
Mezzabotta! Pardon me.
Mezzabotta! Mario! You’re here too?
Guido!
What happened to you!
Hey, big Guido, how are you?
You’ve sprouted quite a few white hairs, old Snaporaz!
Are you drinking that stuff? It’s bad for you.
They said my liver is, well… And you, what’s your treatment?
Just a second… Gloria!
Your daughter. She’s all grown up. – No, she’s not my daughter.
Cruel bees, sucking all the life from these poor flowers.
Darling, this is my friend… – I’m sorry. My shoes…
Gloria. Gloria Morin. – Nice to meet you.
你好
Fine, thank you.
I know all about you. Pupi always, always tells me.
We even had a big fight when I was very critical of your last film.
That’s not true. You liked it a lot.
Let’s go for a drink. Let’s go.
And you, are you here alone? And your wife?
Yes, I’m alone. – Better that way…
Well, I mean, better in general…
You heard about Tina and me? – Tina?
We’re waiting for an annulment.
That’s why we’re here together. We’re engaged.
Congratulations.
Well, big Guido. What are you working on? Something good?
Sure is the ideal place to do some thinking.
Daumier, the author, Miss… Pardon me, what is your name?
Gloria. – Gloria Morin.
Nice to meet you. I am a big admirer of yours.
I’m flattered.
Are you an actress? Did I see your photo somewhere?
An actress. Yes, well…
I have ambitions in that area. Actually enormous ambitions,
but that’s all, for the moment.
She’s got a degree in philosophy.
Allow me. Mario Mezzabotta. – Nice to meet you.
I don’t have a degree. I’m doing my thesis. It’s a bit different.
And the subject? – A difficult one.
The loneliness of modern man in contemporary theater.
Interesting subject. Right, Professor?
And what is the meaning of the capricious apparitions
of the girl of the spring?
An offer of purity? Of warmth to the protagonist?
Of all your story’s overabundant symbols, this is the worst…
She didn’t make it. Better that way.
Yack! How are you? – Not too bad.
Did anybody recognize you? – I don’t think so.
You brought all that luggage?
It’s just five suitcases. Gowns occupy so much space.
I brought one… you’ll see. Did you get it all?
Carla, it’s quiet here at night. There’s nothing going on.
But it’s a fashionable spa. There must be some fashion shows,
some trendy clubs, even at our hotel.
vHave you been behaving? – Yes, yes.
Actually… I couldn’t get you a room in my hotel,
and besides it’s full of people who know me.
So, I found someplace else. A perfect hotel…
Very pretty, you know… – But why?
And how’s this guy? – Sgulp? Great.
You look a little pale. How come?
See, the hotel is right here.
Signora, guests!
See. Like I told you. It’s not…
but it’s very quiet. If you’re hungry,
I’ll get them to bring a couple of sandwiches.
It feels a little sad here. – No, it’s typical!
Besides I’m hungry. You had lunch, but I didn’t.
Hello, Sir.
How’s the solitaire coming along?
