Call off your ungodly dogs!
坐下
Down!
Quiet! Down!
Are you Mr. Heathcliff?
Well, I’m Mr. Lockwood, your new tenant at the Grange.
I’m lost. I…
Can I get a guide from amongst your lads?
No, you cannot. I’ve only got one, and he’s needed here.
Well, then, I’ll have to stay till morning.
好吧
Do as you please.
Quiet! Down!
Thank you for your hospitality. Could you extend it to a cup of tea?
-Shall I? -You heard him ask for it.
Thank you.
I presume the amiable lady is Mrs. Heathcliff?
Would it be taxing your remarkable hospitality if I sat down?
I hope my hospitality will teach you…
not to make rash journeys on these moors.
As for staying here, I don’t keep accommodations for visitors.
You can share a bed with one of the servants.
Thanks. I’ll sleep in a chair, sir.
No. A stranger is a stranger.
Guests are so rare in this house
that I hardly know how to receive them.
I and my dog.
Joseph, open up one of the upstairs rooms.
Here’s a room for thee, sir.
Bridal chamber.
Nobody slept here for years.
It’s a trifle depressing.
Can you light a fire?
No fire will burn in yonder grate.
Chimbley’s all blocked up.
Very well. Thanks.
晚安
Good night.
I said good night.
Heathcliff!
Let me in!
I’m lost on the moors!
-It’s Cathy! -Help! Mr. Heathcliff!
There’s somebody out!
Oh, Mr. Heathcliff!
There’s someone out there. It’s a woman. I heard her calling.
She said her name. Cathy. That was it!
Cathy?
Oh, I must have been dreaming. Forgive me.
Get out of this room. Get out!
Get out, I tell you!
Cathy! Come in!
Cathy, come back to me.
Oh, do come once more.
Oh, my heart’s darling!
Cathy. My own…
我的…
My…
Where’s he going in the storm?
She calls him…
and he follows her out onto the moor.
He’s mad! He’s like a madman.
He seized me by the collar and flung me out.
You see, I had a dream.
I thought I heard a voice calling.
I reached out to close the shutter, and something touched me.
Something cold and clinging, like an icy hand.
And then I saw her. A woman.
Then my senses must have become disordered because the falling snow…
shaped itself into what looked like a phantom, but there was nothing.
It was Cathy.
Who is Cathy?
A girl who died.
Oh, no, I don’t believe in ghosts.
I don’t believe in phantoms sobbing through the night.
-Poor Cathy. -I don’t believe life comes back…
once it’s died and calls again to the living.
No, I don’t.
Maybe if I told you her story,
you’d change your mind…
about the dead coming back.
Maybe you’d know, as I do…
that there is a force that brings them back…
if their hearts were wild enough in life.
Tell me her story.
It began 40 years ago…
when I was young…
in the service of Mr. Earnshaw…
Cathy’s father.
Wuthering Heights was a lovely place in those days…
full of summertime and youth and happy voices.
One day Mr. Earnshaw was returning from a visit to Liverpool.
-You’ll not catch me! -Yes, I will!
Cathy, go wash! I don’t want your father to see you in that dress.
You too, Hindley. Hurry up, now.
I don’t want to get washed!
Come along! I’ll tell your father
not to give you the present he’s bringing.
-What’s he bringing? -Go along upstairs.
Joseph says his horse is coming over the hill.
Evening, Mr. Earnshaw.
-Hello, Joseph. -Hello, neighbor Earnshaw.
-How are you, Dr. Kenneth? -Back so soon?
What in the world have you got there?
A gift of God.
Although it’s as dark as if he came from the devil.
Quiet, me bonny lad, we’re home.
He’s a dour-looking individual.
Aye, and with reason.
I found him starving in Liverpool…
kicked and bruised and almost dead.
So you kidnapped him.
Not until I spent two pounds trying to find out who its owner was.
But nobody would claim him, so I brought him home.
-Giddap! -Here, here!
Come on, you young imp of Satan. Off with ye.
-Cathy, Hindley! -Welcome home. The children are coming.
Don’t look so shocked, Ellen.
He’s going to live with us for a while. Give him a good scrubbing…
and put some Christian clothes on him.
Food is what he needs most, Mr. Earnshaw.
He’s as thin as a sparrow. Come into the kitchen, child.
Cathy! Hindley!
-Father, what did you bring me? -Hello, Father!
There you are. It’s what you’ve always wanted.
A riding crop. Be careful how you use it.
-Oh, it’s wonderful! -I’m so glad you got back soon.
-It’s wonderful! -Ow! Father, make her stop!
No, children.
This is Hindley’s violin.
One of the best in Liverpool.

What do we care if we were expelled from college?
The war is gonna start any day…
We would’ve left college anyhow.
War! Isn’t it exciting, Scarlett?
Do you know those Yankees actually want a war?
-We’ll show ’em… -Fiddle-dee-dee!
War, war, war!
This war talk’s spoiling all the fun at every party this spring.
I get so bored I could scream!
Besides, there isn’t going to be any war…
Not gonna be any war?
Why, honey, of course there’s going to be a war!
If either of you says “war” just once again…
I’ll go in the house and slam the door.
-But, Scarlett, honey… -Don’t you want us to have a war?
好…
Well…
but remember…
I warned you.
我知道
I’ve got an idea.
We’ll talk about the Wilkes’ barbecue at Twelve Oaks.
That’s a good idea. Aren’t you eating barbecue with us?
I hadn’t thought about that yet. I’ll think about that tomorrow.
We want all your waltzes.
First Brent, then me, then Brent, then me again and so on.
-Promise? -I’d just love to.
If only I didn’t have every one of them taken already.
Why, honey, you can’t do that to us.
-How about if we tell you a secret? -A secret? Who about?
Do you know Miss Melanie Hamilton from Atlanta?
Ashley Wilkes’ cousin. She’s visiting the Wilkes’…
That goody-goody! Who wants to know a secret about her?
Anyway, we heard, that is, they say…
Ashley Wilkes is gonna marry her…
The Wilkeses always marry their cousins.
Now do we get those waltzes?
当然
Of course.
I’ll bet the other boys will be hopping mad…
Let ’em be mad. We two can handle’em!
It can’t be true. Ashley loves me!
Scarlett!
What has gotten into her?
Do you suppose we made her mad?
Where’re you goin’ without your shawl…
and the night air fixin’ to set in?
How come you didn’t ask them gentlemen to stay for supper?
You ain’t got no more manners than a field hand…
after me and Miss Ellen done labored with you.
Miss Scarlett, come on in the house!
Come on in before you catch your death of dampness.
No! I’ll wait for Pa to come home from the Wilkes’.
回来
Come on in here!
快
Come on!
Quittin’ time!
Who says it’s quittin’ time?
I says it’s quittin’ time.
I’s the foreman…
I’s the one that says when it’s quittin’ time at Tara!
收工
Quittin’ time!
收工了
Quittin’ time!
There’s none in the county can touch you…
and none in the state.
爸
Pa!
So it’s proud of yourself, you are.
Well, Katie Scarlett O’Hara!
So, you’ve been spying on me, and like your sister, Suellen…
…you’ll tell your mother I was jumping again?
Pa, you know I’m no tattletale like Suellen…
but it does seem to me…
after you broke your knee last year jumping that same fence…
I’ll not have me own daughter…
tellin’ me what I shall jump and not jump.
It’s my own neck, so it is.
All right, Pa, you jump what you please…
How are they all over at Twelve Oaks?
威尔
The Wilkeses?
Just as you’d expect with the barbecue…
tomorrow and talking nothing but war.
Oh, bother the war. Was there anyone else there?
Their cousin, Melanie Hamilton…
from Atlanta and her brother, Charles.
Melanie Hamilton!
She’s a pale-faced, mealy-mouthed ninny. I hate her.
Ashley Wilkes doesn’t think so.
Ashley Wilkes couldn’t like anyone like her.
What’s your interest in Ashley and Miss Melanie?
It’s nothing. Let’s go into the house, Pa.
Has he been trifling with you? Has he asked you to marry him?
-No! -No, nor will he.
I have it in strictest confidence…
from John Wilkes this afternoon…
Ashley is going to marry Miss Melanie.
It will be announced tomorrow night at the ball.
I don’t believe it.
Here! Here! Where are you off to?
Scarlett!
What are you about?
Have you made a spectacle of yourself running after a man…
who’s not in love with you…
when you might have any man in the county.
I haven’t been running after him. It’s just a surprise, that’s all.
Now, don’t be jerking your chin at me.
If Ashley wanted to marry you…
it would be with misgivings I’d say “yes”.
I want my girl to be happy. You’d not be happy with him.
I would, I would!
Well, I got an eight myself, so I don’t think you got three of’em.
But just to find out, I’ll bump ya 2,000. Eh, Frenchy?
Frenchy
All or nothin’, I always say. Me too.
Make your bet.
Ya mean ya ain’t droppin’?
I’m still in.
And I still don’t think ya got three eights, so pop goes the weasel.
[Chuckling] Think that’s enough?
Don’t “you?”
You’re bettin’.
Well, dern my hide. I got a 3,000-acre ranch…
and 1,500 head of cattle worth at least $ 10,000…
that says you don’t want any part of it.
Ohh! Golly, that’s hot!
[Kent] Can’t ya be more careful, Frenchy?
Frenchy
My heel caught on something. Let me wipe you off.
Oh, that’s all right, Frenchy. Accidents’ll happen.
I’m sorry. That’s all right. Forget it. Forget it.
Let’s play poker. Callin’ my bet or ain’t ya’?
I’ll call.
Three shining aces.
Where?
I had an ace in the hole. How’d that deuce get there?
Maybe you only seen one end of it. I saw what I saw.
Well, I guess that makes my two pair good.
You take your hands off that pot. Behave yourself.
You keep outta this. You were bluffing, and you were called.
You’re all a bunch of crooks, but ya ain’t cheatin’ me.
Take it easy, partner.
I’ll show ya how I’ll take it.
Quiet! Quiet!
Quiet!
安静！
Boys.
伙计
Nice work, honey. Practise makes perfect.
Well, that does it. This gives us a solid strip of land right across the valley.
And what do we do now?
Nothin’ ’til them cattle men try to drive their herds through without payin’.
How many steers will come through? Last year, there were 350,000.
Now, if we charge ’em 25 cents a head–
That makes $87,500.
Now that’s money. We’re rich.
I’ll get my gal’s teeth plugged with diamonds…
and just sit and watch her smile.
Uh-uh. I’ll take care of that.
I’d rather have cash in the bank.
And stay outta here!
Just a minute, Claggett.
Claggett
Where you going with that rifle’? You let me alone, Keogh.
Keogh
I’m gonna kill that dirty cheat if it’s the last thing I do.
Now take it easy. You ain’t gonna kill nobody. What’s this all about?
That low-down skunk sucked me into bettin’ my ranch and cattle…
and then switched cards on me. So Kent got you too, did he?
He thinks he did. Gimme that gun!
Now, you go on home. I’ll see that they don’t get your ranch.
There’s only one way to stop Kent. I’ll take care of that too.
I been waitin’ a long time to catch up with that tin horn.
Now go on home. Go on. Go on before you get yourself killed.
Sheriff, Sheriff, Sheriff. What’s up? What’s up? Not a thing, Wash.
Wash
Oh, ya can’t fool me.
I can see by the look in yer eye and the way you’re a-walkin’.
You know, when Tom Destry walked like that, he was stalking his prey.
Tom Destry
Now, if there’s anything I can do to help ya, I’ll do it.
No, thanks, Wash. I got no need for you and your banjo right now.
When I was Destry’s deputy, I was good with guns. I was equal to any emergency.
I know. I know. Some other time. [ Everyone Laughing]

Is there anything I can do for you, monsieur?
没有
No. No, no.
Yes, monsieur?
Just looking around.
Comrades, why should we lie to each other? It’s wonderful.
Let’s be honest. Have we anything like it in Russia?
没有
No.
Can you imagine what the beds would be in a hotel like that?
They tell me when you ring once, the valet comes in.
When you ring twice, you get a waiter.
And do you know what happens when you ring three times?
A maid comes in. A French maid.
Comrades, if we ring nine times…Let’s go in.
等一下
Just a minute.
I have nothing against the idea, but I still say…
…let’s go back to the Hotel Terminus.
Moscow made our reservations there. We are on an official mission…
…and we have no right to change the orders of our superiors.
Where is your courage, Comrade Buljanoff?
Are you the Buljanoff who fought on the barricades?
Now you are afraid to take a room with a bath?
– I don’t want to go to Siberia. – I don’t want to go to Hotel Terminus.
And I don’t want to…
– No, no. – Listen to me.
Look, Buljanoff, if Lenin were alive, he would say:
“Buljanoff, comrade, for once in your life, you’re in Paris.
Don’t be a fool. Go in there and ring three times. ”
He wouldn’t say that.
What he would say is: “Buljanoff, you can’t afford to live in a cheap hotel.
Doesn’t the prestige of the Bolsheviks mean anything to you?
Do you want to live in a hotel…
…where you press for the hot water and cold comes…
…and when you press for cold water, nothing comes at all?”
Phooey, Buljanoff.
I still say our place is with the common people.
But who am I to contradict Lenin? Let’s go in.
– Are you the manager? – Yes, monsieur.
Pardon me for introducing Comrade Iranoff…
– …member of the Russian Board of Trade. – Monsieur.
– This is Comrade Kopalski. – Monsieur.
– And I am Comrade Buljanoff. – Monsieur.
May I ask you how much your rooms are?
Well, gentlemen, I’m afraid our rates are rather high.
Why should you be afraid? Heh.
I might be able to accommodate you.
– Is there some more luggage? – Oh, Yes.
But have you a safe big enough to hold this?
I’m afraid we have no boxes of that size in the vault…
…but there’s a suite with a private safe.
那更好
That’s even better.
– But, gentlemen, I’m afraid… – He’s always afraid.
I just wanted to explain.
The apartment may suit your convenience…
…but I doubt whether it will fit your convictions.
– It’s the royal suite. – The royal suite?
Just a minute.
Comrades, I warn you,
if it gets out in Moscow that we stay in the royal suite…
…we’ll get into terrible trouble.
We just tell them we had to do it on account of the safe.
That’s a perfect excuse. There was no other safe big enough.
– That’s right. – That’s fine.
Of course, we could take out the pieces…
…and distribute them in three or four boxes in the vault…
…and take a small room.
– That’s an idea, isn’t it? – Yes, that’s an idea.
But who said we have to have an idea?
– That’s right. Ha-ha-ha. – That’s very good.
– Give us the royal suite. – Step this way, please.
喂
Hello.
Please connect me with Mercier. Yes, the jeweler.
喂？喂？
Hell? Hello?
No, I want to speak to Monsieur Mercier personally.
是的
Yes.
Hello, Monsieur Mercier?
This is Iranoff, member of the Russian Board of Trade.
Yes, we arrived this morning.
Oh, thank you very, very much.
Yes, we have everything here. The necklace too.
All 14 pieces at the… What?
No, Monsieur Mercier.
The court jewels of the Grand Duchess Swana consisted of 14 pieces.
Why don’t you check on that?
Of course, we have all the necessary credentials.
Will you take care of the royal suite? I’ll be back in 10 minutes.
– All right, Rakonin. – Thank you very much. Thank you.
– 8 rue de Chalon. – Yeah, monsieur.
– Hello, Leon. – Morning, Swana, darling.
It’s really a wretched morning. Wretched. I can’t get myself right.
I wanted to look mellow and I look brittle.
My face doesn’t compose well. It’s all highlights.
How can I dim myself down, Leon? Suggest something.
Oh, I’m so bored with this face. I wish I had someone else’s face.
Whose face would you have if you had your choice?
Oh, well, I guess one gets the face one deserves.
There’s one marvelous advantage to your conversation.
However many questions you ask, you never expect an answer.
Don’t you find that restful?
– Good morning, darling. – Good morning.
– Why didn’t you come last night? – Darling, I was looking after your interests.
Did you win?
We can forget horse racing, roulette, everything.
Our worries are over.
You remember the platinum watch with the diamond numbers?
You’ll be in a position to give it to me now.
Oh, darling, you’re so good to me.
We could be rich, if you say the word.
I had dinner with the Guizots last night.
Those awful newspaper people?
You’d be surprised how many nice people dine with the Guizots.
– What a gruesome proof of the power of the press. – Listen to this one
I sold Monsieur Guizot the idea …
– …of publishing your memoirsin the Gazette Parisienne. – What?
The Life and Loves of the Grand Duchess Swana of Russia
Oh, Leon.
But darling, we won’t have to worry about our future
if you’re willing to raffle off your past.
进来
Come in.
Count Rakonin asks the privilege of a few words, Your Highness.
– Rakonin? – Yes, he’s a waiter at the Clarence, poor devil.
– You know him. – Oh, yes.
Tell him I’m sorry, I won’t be able to see him for half an hour.
The count says if it could be as soon as possible.
It’s luncheon time, and he’s just between courses.
All right, all right, I’ll see him right away.
– I can’t get myself right today… – Count Rakonin’s between courses.
My little Volga, mwah, boatman.

We’re in the heart of England, Mr. Jackson.
It’s a heart that has a very gentle beat.
There’s the special train. In 1 5 minutes,
the heart of England’s…
of another school year.
One which I sincerely hope will be
a credit to Brookfield.
We require not only to win the matches
against Millfield and Sedbury…
…but also, if it’s not
troubling you too much…
…some fairly decent results
in the examinations.
Now I have a small
disappointment for you.
Perhaps you’re aware of it already.
For the first time in 58 years…
…Mr. Chipping has been unable
to attend first-day assembly.
Chips, and you’ll allow me
to refer to him as Chips…
…seeing that 37 years ago this autumn…
…he gave me a thrashing
for sheer bone laziness.
Well, Chips has a cold.
And a cold can be quite a serious thing
for a young fellow of 3.
So Dr. Merivale has ordered him
to stay at home.
It was quite a battle.
But our old friend was
finally induced to surrender…
…and he is now sitting, under
violent protest, by his own fireside.
-Oh, sir. Sorry, sir.
-What is this? A scrimmage?
No, sir. I’m looking for assembly.
Oh, are you? So am l.
Hang onto my tail. Come on.
Locked out.
Well, I’ll be–
Well, we’ll have to wait.
That’s all there is to it.
-So you’re a stinker?
-A stinker, sir?
A new boy. That is what we call
them here. “Stinkers.”
-What’s your name?
-I’m Dorset, sir.
Duke of Dorset? I taught your father.
He was always late. Always late.
看
Look.
这里
Here.
-Ancestor of yours.
-Yes, sir.
-Drake! Was he here, sir?
-Yes.
-Was he a stinker too, sir?
-To be sure, he was.
But he grew out of it, and so will you.
-Are you a master, sir?
-I was a master once.
I’ve taught thousands of boys,
right back to 1 870…
…but I gave it up. Gave it up 1 5 years ago.
I say, you must be terribly old, sir.
Well, I’m certainly no chicken.
No chicken.
That’s the school song.
-It’s a beautiful song.
-Yes, sir.
-Mr. Chipping, we weren’t expecting you.
-Good afternoon, Martin.
-Good afternoon, sir!
-Rigby, good afternoon.
My governor asked to be remembered.
He’ll send some grouse.
Thank you, Grayson.
I shall appreciate that very much.
-Where did you go for holiday?
-I stayed home.
-Glad to see you.
-Thank you, Mills.
-The head said you couldn’t come out, sir.
-Couldn’t l?
-How do you do, sir?
-Collingwoods.
You look more
like your father every day.
-Good afternoon, sir. This is my brother.
-Miller? Miller secundus, eh?
Yes, sir.
Do they starve you at home, Miller?
-Hello, sir.
-Hello, Morgan.
Still growing out of your trousers?
Your grandfather’s trousers were short.
Runs in the family. Morgans are always
three inches ahead of their trousers.
奇普
Chipping.
Why, Chipping.
Sorry I’m late. Interference. Interference.
The first time for 58 years.
-I told you to stay indoors.
-A lot of namby-pamby nonsense.
I’m as sound as a bell, no thanks to you.
Ridiculous old man. He’s in his dotage.
-Mr. Jackson, this is Mr. Chipping.
-I thought so.
This is Mr. Jackson, our new history master.
Now you can say you’ve shaken hands
with Chips of Brookfield School.

“Senator Samuel Foley dead.”
Died here at Saint Vincent’s.
“At the bedside was politicalsidekick Senator Joseph Paine.”
Long distance?
Joseph Paine speaking. I wantthe governor’s residence, Jackson City.
Hello? Oh, Joe!
乔！
不！
Oh, no!Couldn’t have happened at a worse time.
Call Jim Taylor. Tell himI’m on a plane for home.
立刻
Yes, Joe, yes. Right away.
What is it?
Sam Foley’s dead.Great saints!
傅利
Of all times,Foley had to go and die on us.
Who are you calling?Taylor, my dear.
What’s up, Happy?Sam Foley died tonight.
That’s too bad.
Well, don’t get excited. Is Paine coming?
Yes, Jim. Yes, Jim.
Yes, Jim.
He’d drop deadif you ever said no.
No, my dear, this is no time for jokes.
I’ve got to appoint a new senator. The governor will see all committees.
Tell him I won’t wait any longer.Yes, Mr. Edwards.
Probably got Taylor in there, telling him what to do.
HOPPER:Tell them to wait.I’ll see them immediately.
I’ve got to see those citizens,I can’t put them off.
They’ll want something to say aboutwho takes Foley’s place.
Ten to one they’ve got a man.Relax, Happy.
Stop having kittens.
Go and tell Jim Taylor and Joe Paine,
I give them one minuteto make up their minds.
You go tell Jim Taylor.
I will tell him.
It’s high time I told Jim Taylora thing or two.
If you and Joe gab any longerabout this appointment,
I’ll see those committees. You’ll see them when we’re finished.
Yes, Jim. But hurry, will you?Yes, we’ll hurry. We’ll hurry.
That’s telling him, Happy, old boy.
Jim, with this Willet Creek Damcoming up,
the man who takes Foley’s place
can’t ask any questionsor talk out of turn.
Got to be absolutely sure. That’s why I say Horace Miller.
He’ll take orders all right.
Suppose we don’t try to go throughwith this dam.
Suppose we postpone ituntil next session of Congress.
Or drop it altogether. That’d be a crime, Joe.
After all the work we put in on it?
Getting it buried in this Deficiency Billas nicely as you please.
Having it approved.It’s rolling along.
Like taking candy from a baby.
Is it worth the risk of a scandal, with a new man in the Senate?
Worth the risk?
What’s the matter with you?
Where you’re concerned,I wouldn’t take the slightest risk,
especially with your great reputationin the Senate.
看这里
Here, look.
Look at the campaignI started for youin all my papers.
A little obscure,isn’t it?
I don’t know. Maybe.
[CHUCKLES]
But after all, you’re the logical manfrom the West
for the national ticket.
At the convention,anything can happen.
Jim, if what you say is possible,
why not do as I sayand drop things like this dam?
We can’t do it, Joe.
We’ve been quietlybuying all the landaround that dam
and holding it in dummy names.
If we drop it now,it’ll bring about an investigation.
It’ll show that we’re going to sell itto the state
under phony names.
The smartest thing for us to do
is to push this dam through
and get it over with.
All right, appoint Miller. If you’re sure he’ll take orders.
Don’t worry. He’ll take orders.
Come on.
HOPPER:Just a minute.Just one more minute!
We’ve got your man.
Horace Miller.Horace Miller?
A born stooge!
Horace will perform like a trained seal.
What did I tell you?
If I throw a party man like Miller…
For reasons I can’t go into,it’s got to be him.
Do you understand? Now make out your ticket.
快
Come on.
But I’ve got to see thoseangry committees first.
Work for harmony. Harmony!
In considering candidateswho might have the high qualifications
of U.S. senator,
one name shone out like a beacon,
the Honorable Horace Miller.
[CROWD PROTESTING]
A party man. He’s Taylor’s stooge!Please!
New Citizens Committeewon’t stand for this!
So they namedtheir own candidate, eh?
谁？
Who?
You won’t like him.Come on, who?
Henry Hill.Henry Hill, that crackpot?
You should’ve killed that so fast…
I couldn’t.
Those men were…Never mind.
You forget about them.
That bunch is outfor blood. If I…
I said forget about them.
Horace Miller goes to the Senate, and that settles it.
I won’t send Horace Miller.
You won’t?No, I won’t.
I won’t let you callouslywreck my whole political future.
Your political future?
I bought it for you as a present.
I can grab it back so fastit’ll make your head swim.
You’ve got a nerve to sit and worryabout your future
when we’re in a spotlike this.
The man is Miller.
Hello, Dad.
[CHILDREN CHATTERING]
What’s the matter? Is it getting you down?
Is what getting me down? You’re in a deuce of a pickle.
Looks like Henry Hill or else.
It’s Horace Miller or else.Peter!
I wouldn’t appoint a twerp like Miller,Taylor or no Taylor.
May I askwhat Taylor has to do with this?

She isn’t coming yet, Toto.
Did she hurt you?
She tried to, didn’t she?
Come on. We’ll go tell Uncle Henry and Auntie Em.
Come on, Toto.
Aunt Em! Aunt Em.
Listen to what Miss Gulch did to Toto–
Dorothy, please. We’re counting.
But she hit him– – Don’t bother us now, honey.
The incubator’s gone bad and we’re likely to lose a lot of our chicks.
Oh, that poor little thing.
But Miss Gulch hit Toto with a rake…
…because she says he chases her nasty old cat every day.
seventy. Dorothy, please.
But he doesn’t do it every day. Just once or twice a week.
He can’t catch her old cat anyway.
And now she says she’s gonna– – Dorothy. Dorothy, we’re busy.
好吧
Oh, all right.
How’s she coming? – .Take it easy.
哦
Ow!
You got my finger.
Get your finger out of the way.
好了
There you are.
Right on my finger.
Lucky it wasn’t your head.
Zeke, what am I gonna do about Miss Gulch? Just because Toto–
Listen, honey, I got them hogs to get in.
Dorothy, you ain’t using your head. You’d think you didn’t have any brains.
I have so got brains. – Well, why don’t you use them?
Don’t go by Miss Gulch’s place.
Then Toto won’t get in her garden, and you won’t get in no trouble, see?
Oh, Hunk, you just won’t listen, that’s all.
Well, your head ain’t made of straw, you know.
Say, get in there before I make a dime bank out of you.
Listen, kid…
…are you gonna let that old Gulch heifer try and buffalo you?
She ain’t nothing to be afraid of. Have a little courage.
I’m not afraid of her.
Next time she squawks, walk up to her and spit in her eye.
That’s what I’d do. – Oh! Oh!
杰可
Oh! Zeke!
Help! Help me, Zeke! Get me out of here!
救命
Help!
哦
Oh! Oh!
Are you all right, Dorothy? – Yes, I’m all right.
I fell in, and Zeke–
Why, Zeke, you’re just as scared as I am.
You gonna let a little old pig make a coward out of you?
看你…
Look at you–
What’s all this jabber-wapping when there’s work to be done?
I know three farm hands that’ll be out of a job.
Dorothy was–
I saw you tinkering with that contraption.
You and Hunk get back to that wagon. – All right.
But someday they’ll erect a statue to me–
Well, don’t start posing for it now.
Can’t work on an empty stomach. Have some crullers.
Gosh, Mrs. Gale. – Just fried.
You see, Dorothy toppled into the–
It’s no place for Dorothy around a pigsty.
Feed those hogs before they worry themselves into anemia.
Yes. – Auntie Em…
…you know what Miss Gulch said she was going to do to Toto?
She said she’d– – Stop imagining things.
You always get in a fret over nothing. You just help us out today…
…and find yourself a place where you won’t get into any trouble.
Someplace where there isn’t any trouble.
Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto?
There must be.
It’s not a place you can get to by a boat or a train.
It’s far, far away.
Behind the moon…
…beyond the rain…
Over The Rainbow (Judy Garland)
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds Are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll Find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then
Oh why can’t I
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why oh why
我不能
Can’t I
Mr. Gale. – Howdy, Miss Gulch.
I want to see you and your wife about Dorothy.
What has Dorothy done? – What’s she done?
I’m all but lame from the bite on my leg.
You mean, she bit you? – No, her dog.
Oh, she bit her dog, eh?
不是
No.
That dog’s a menace. I’m taking him to make sure he’s destroyed.
Destroyed. Toto?
Oh, you can’t. You mustn’t.
Auntie Em. Uncle Henry. You won’t let her, will you?
Of course we won’t.
will we, Em?
Please, Aunt Em.
Toto didn’t know he was doing anything wrong.
I’m the one that ought to be punished. Send me to bed without supper.
Hand over that dog or I’ll bring a suit that’ll take your farm.
The law protects folks against dogs that bite.
How about if she keeps him tied up? He’s gentle.
With gentle people, that is. – That’s for the sheriff to decide.
This order allows me to take him. Unless you wanna go against the law.
对
Hm. Yes.
We can’t go against the law. I’m afraid poor Toto has to go.
Now you’re seeing reason. – No.
Here’s what I’m taking him in, so he can’t attack me again.
No,no. I won’t let you take him.

There he is! How nobly he bears himself. […]

There he is!
How nobly he bears himself.
Oh, it must be wonderful to be a man and a hero.
He carries himself like a king.
See how his eyes constantly look up… searching for the queen.
Yes, isn’t he wonderful?
Yes, and love too has its victories.
And this, I think, belongs to Her Majesty.
An easy victory if one is a queen and may command it.
What if Her Majesty should overhear you?
The day when Essex returns, every petticoat at the palace is chosen with an eye to pleasing him.
Come along, my son, it’s time you went into the presence chamber.
You may do as you please, father.
– I’ll have no part in this. – Don’t be a fool, Cecil.
Elizabeth can be difficult, even on her good day.
Good days or bad, we’ll see little enough of her now with Essex home.
Something’s got to be done to tarnish him or we’ll have him sharing England’s throne with her.
Then where shall we be? No, I’ll be hanged if I welcome him.
You may be hanged if you do not, my son.
You know Her Majesty’s infatuation for him.
But, Your Majesty, I must beg you to reconsider.
Essex is a proud man, you cannot, you must not do this thing to him.
Bacon, this will not be easy for me.
Whatever he has done, he is the man of all men closest to my heart.
Whatever he suffers, I suffer a thousand times more intently.
Then why, Your Majesty, why?
Because the necessities of a queen must transcend those of a woman.
His ambition has jeopardized the prosperity of the English people.
It may endanger the very peace and stability of England.
Your Majesty, forgive this frankness, but your love for him jeopardizes the situation.
A situation fraught with gravest consequence for my subjects, Bacon.
My personal feelings must not enter into this.
God help me.
走了。
Go now. Let me alone.
Your Majesty.
My fan. Hurry.
– Present arms! – Up!
Robert Devereux, by grace of Her Majesty Earl of Essex, general of the horse and knight of the garter.
Charles, Baron Howard of Effingham, Lord High Admiral of England.
Walter Raleigh, knight, vice admiral of the fleets, and warden of the Stannary.
Do you kneel in homage, my lord Essex… or in shame?
Shame, Your Majesty?
Have you lost your hearing as well as your military skill?
Stand up.
I believe my military skill was well demonstrated at Cadiz, madam.
Is it possible our commissioner hasn’t brought you news of my victory?
Your victory!
For three years, the rains of England have rotted our harvest to the ground.
Three years of famine and a depleted treasury.
But my lord of Essex had the cure for that.
Yes, indeed.
âx80x9cRaise me but 50,000 pounds, madam,” says he, “and I’ll sail for Cadiz and fetch you âx80x9csuch a Spanish treasure fleet as will make England rich again.”
So I did.
I taxed my already overburdened people.
Got him his 50,000 pounds.
Now, where is my Spanish treasure fleet?
看！
Look!
He can’t answer. He daren’t answer.
If Your Majesty will let me tell you.
Go on, then, tell me.
Unfortunately, it was you yourself who called the fleet back from Cadiz before my plans had been carried out.
Unfortunately, the Spanish treasure fleet, with 12 million ducats lies beneath the waters of Cadiz Harbor, sunk by the Spaniards themselves.
While Essex, against the advice of Howard and Raleigh gathered fame for himself by storming the town.
There was naught else to be done in honor, madam.
It was for the glory of England.
For the glory of Essex!
Will that put food into the mouths of my starving people?
Can they subsist upon laurel wreaths from your heroic brow?
You think they’re displeased with what I did at Cadiz, madam? Listen to it.
Obviously, the English people are more readily pleased than their queen, madam.
They cry your name today, but what will they say tomorrow when I must tax them again to pay off the soldiers and the fleet?
Does it mean nothing that 1200 pieces of Spanish ordnance were sunk in my hollow victory?
Thanks to my lord Howard and to Sir Walter Raleigh.
It seems you’ve no reward for me as a soldier, madam.
That the soldier can endure.
But the man had hoped for a different kind of reception.
You meant well, perhaps… but my rewards are for unselfish effort, not for things half or meanly done.
Sir Walter Raleigh.
From today, you take rank as commander of our guard.
My Lord Howard.
Your Majesty.
In grateful return for what you tried to do at Cadiz without thought of self and only for your country’s honor I appoint you Lord Lieutenant, General of all England,
commander of my army and my fleet, and name you Earl of Nottingham.
Your Majesty.
– Why that’s impossible. – Keep silent.
I will not be silent.
Do you intend that this Earl of Nottingham take precedence in court over me?
He’ll take precedence in court over you as he did in wisdom at Cadiz.
You were in command and abused it, with Essex first, and England second.
Think that if you will, but I still consider it an injustice that you place Howard before me.
– I feel you have no right. – I have… I have no right?
As a queen, yes, but as a woman, do I mean nothing to you?
Nothing.
Lord Essex!
Do you dare turn your back on Elizabeth of England?
You dare?
I would not have taken that from the king, your father.
Much less will I accept it from a king in petticoats.
If the courier comes, send him to me at once.
You may go.
I said, that’s all.
Well?
With Your Grace’s indulgence there’s another matter.
Well, what is it? What’s it about?
Essex.
Did I not forbid his name to be spoken at court?
But, Your Majesty, Sir Thomas Egerton received a letter from him from his manor at Wanstead.
Ha-ha! I knew he’d come to it, Cecil.
Begging Egerton to intercede for him, of course.
Well, perhaps I was a little harsh.
What did the letter say?
– When is he coming home? – I have it here.
Let me see.
He says, “I owe to Her Majesty a duty of allegiance in which I never can, never will fail.”
Poor darling. Of course he’s sorry.
But a little apprehensive perhaps.
继续。继续。
Go on. Go on.
âx80x9cBut I do not owe her the duty of attendance upon her.
âx80x9cAnd had I that duty, âx80x9cHer Majesty’s conduct has canceled it.
âx80x9cAs for asking her pardon, why should I ask pardon for receiving an insult?”
Stop it!
不。
No.
No, go on. I’ll hear it.
âx80x9cWhen the vilest of indignities is done to me âx80x9cnot even religion enforces me to sue.
âx80x9cI have received the wrong.
Let her seek pardon of me.”
âx80x9cAnd if she refuses, all her power can show âx80x9cno more strength in oppressing me than I can summon to resist it.âx80x9d
Cecil, this is intolerable!
Are you sure Essex wrote this?
