You’d better take this along, Don.
It’s gonna be cold on the farm. – Okay.
How many shirts are you taking? – Three.
I’m taking five. – Five?
I told them at the office I might not be back until Tuesday.
We’ll get there this afternoon.
That’ll give us all Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
We’ll make it a long, wonderful weekend.
Sounds long, all right.
It’ll be good for you, Don, after what you’ve been through.
Trees and grass and sweet cider and buttermilk…
and water from that well that’s colder than any other…
Wick, please.
Why this emphasis on liquids? Very dull liquids.
Sorry, Don.
我想…
You know,
I think it’d be a good idea if we took along my typewriter.
What for?
To write. I’m gonna write there, get started on that novel.
You really feel up to writing? – Why not?
I mean, after what you’ve been through.
I haven’t touched the stuff for 10 days now. – I know.
我知道
I know you haven’t, Don.
Where is the typewriter? – In the living room.
In the closet.
Kinda towards the back.
Are you sure it’s in the closet? I can’t find it.
Well, look by the desk.
Isn’t it under your bed?
Did you find it? – Oh, sure, sure. Here it is.
And here’s some paper.
We’ll fix up a table on the south porch.
Nobody will disturb you. I’ll see to it.
Maybe Saturday,
we can run down to the country club.
I’m not going near that country club. – Why not?
They’re all a bunch of hypocrites.
I don’t like to be whispered about.
“Look who’s here from New York. The Birnam brothers.”
Or rather, the nurse and the invalid.
Oh, stop it, Don. Nobody there knows about you.
The minute we get off the train, the alarm is sounded.
“The leper is back. Hide your liquor.”
That’s Helen. – I’ll take it.
Helen. – Hello, Wick. Where’s Don?
I’m glad I made it.
I was afraid you’d be gone. Presents.
The new Thurber book with comical jokes and pictures…
a nice, quiet little double-murder by Agatha Christie…
cigarettes, chewing gum,
and, darling, have a wonderful time.
And don’t forget: Lots of sleep, lots of milk…
Lots of cider and lots of nice cold water from the well. I know.
Bend down.
And now I must be going.
I’m ten minutes late for the concert already.
So long, Wick. – What concert?
Carnegie Hall. Bob Roller’s conducting.
They gave me two tickets at the office.
Who are you going with? – Nobody.
Nobody? What are they playing?
Brahms’ second symphony,
something by Beethoven, something by Handel…
and not one note of Grieg. – Sounds wonderful.
Good-bye, boys. See you Monday.
Tuesday. – Wait a minute.
Wick, I just had a crazy idea. – As for instance?
Who says we have to take the 3:15 train?
We could go on the 6:30.
What are you talking about?
If we took a later train,
Helen wouldn’t have to go the concert by herself.
She’s got two tickets, hasn’t she?
No. No, I’m not going to upset any of your plans.
You’re going on the 3:15.
Oh, now, Helen, it’s so silly.
A whale of a concert, and an empty seat next to you.
No, Don. Everything’s all set.
They’ll be at the station and dinner will be waiting.
Put in a call that we’re taking a later train,
dinner at 9:00, in bed by 10:00.
Nothing doing. We’re going.
Wick is right.
Don’t worry about that seat.
I’ll find myself a handsome South American millionaire.
There you are. You hear?
Besides, we’d have to break our necks to catch the train.
It’s five to 3:00. – You see?
Don’t be so stubborn, Wick.
All right, go ahead.
Just a minute. I’m not going.
Then what are we talking about?
I want you to go… you and Helen.
Me and Helen.
That’s the idea. Who likes Brahms, you or I?
Since when don’t you like Brahms?
I’ll just stick around here and finish packing,
take a little nap, maybe.
Nonsense. If anybody goes… Helen’s your girl.
There’s something in that.
What’s more, I don’t think you should be left alone.
I shouldn’t? Not to be trusted, is that it? – No.
Really, Don. – After what you’ve been through…
I couldn’t go to a concert. I couldn’t face the crowds.
I couldn’t sit through it with all those people.
Besides,
I wanna be alone for a couple hours to kind of assemble myself.
Is that such an extraordinary thing to want?
Don’t act so outraged, would you mind?
All right. Anything else? – Please, boys.
Come on, Helen.
You’ll stay right here. – Where would I go?
Then you’ll be here when we come back?
I told you I’m not leaving.
You’ve told us a good many things, Don.
If you don’t believe me, take my keys,
lock me in like a dog!
We’ve got to trust Don.
That’s the only way.
Sorry, Don. Let’s go, Helen.

Take a look at a castle, any castle.
Now, break down the key elements that make it a castle.
They haven’t changed in a thousand years.
One, location. A site on high ground that commands the territory…
as far as the eye can see.
Two, protection. big walls. Walls strong enough to withstand a frontal attack.
Three, a garrison. Men who are trained and willing to kill.
Four, a flag. You tell your men,
“You’re soldiers and that’s our flag. ”
You tell them, “Nobody takes our flag. ”
最后
One step forward. Forward!
And you raise that flag so it flies high where everyone can see it.
Now you’ve got yourself a castle.
The only difference between this castle and all the rest,
is that they were built to keep people out.
This castle is built to keep people in.
Come on. Give me the ball. Give me the ball, man.
Come on. Give me the fucking ball. Fuck you!
长官
Sir?
Sir? A movement order just came in.
Give it to Captain Peretz.
I’ll take that, Sheila. It’s a Category “A” transfer.
Let me see it.
Fallout! Fallout! Fallout! Play ball, man. Come on.
1700 hours?
N No, no, we’re prepared.
Well, it’s just really fast. Okay.
All right. You’re sure you’re positive about this.
Okay. Thankyou.
长官
Sir?
是真的
It’s the real deal.
He is coming in at 1700 hours.
Seventeen hundred hours today?
That’s what they said, sir.
I don’t understand. The trial began today.
Apparently, he pled guilty and got ten years.
They’re expediting his transfer as a courtesy.
Oh, as a courtesy?
They should be naming a base after the man. Not sending him here.
My God, Eugene Irwin.
Well, we have verdict. We have a sentence. We have a prisoner.
We do our job… whether we like it or not.
Puts us on our toes, though, doesn’t it?
Escort detail report to Gate 18. Prisoner.
Escort detail meet the prisoner on Gate “A. ”
I give him a week.
‘Til what? ‘Til he “scrags” himself.
The courtmartial didn’t put him over the edge,
I guarantee you the shithouse will. A week?
Six bundles. Six? Let’s make it ten.
All right. Make it ten then. Ah, there we go.
Ten bundles, Mr. Dellwo. Very specific, man.
Anybody else? You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.
Come on. We’ll make it like the Final Four. Ten bundles a square. Who’s in?
I’m not going to bet on whether or not a man’s going to kill himself.
That’s some creepy shit, pilot.
Besides, look at him. One week? He’s tougher than that.
How much tougher? Eight, ten, what?
Eight. Anyone else?
You’re an icecold motherfucker, Yates. Hey, I’m not betting…
he’s going to off himself. I’m just playing the books.
What about you, Cutbush? I know you’re in. Put me in for a week and a half.
A week and a half?. Wallace?
Go ahead. I have the transfer “A” to the P.R.U. now.
Copy that. P.R.U. One wallet. Leather.
Family photos? My daughter.
Grandson. Would you like to keep these?
Um, that’s an authorized item.
I’d appreciate that.
One set of keys. Glasses.
I’m going to need your ring.
Thankyou.
Oh. Actually, you can keep that. Academy rings are authorized.
Three stars, two sets. Looks like that’s everything.
Sir? Prisoner Irwin is outside. Five minutes.
Five minutes. You can put that down if you want.
You talking to me? Yes.
I know what you’re thinking. Do I salute you, or do you salute me?
Well, the answer is neither.
My men salute me, of course, and each other according to rank.
But there is no saluting by the general prison population.
Well, first things first. Are you hungry?
No. Are you sure? Mondays are our Salisbury steak night.
Always a cause for celebration. Indeed.
Indeed. May I offer you some lemonade?
Thankyou. Just be a minute, sir.
Prisoner Aguilar If you’ll step over here, I’ll give you…
a basic layout of the facility.
The building we’re in now is the administration building.
That building there houses the tiers.
That’s where you and the other inmates will live.
The building next to it is the laundry, where I’ve had you assigned.
Oh, that is the old blockhouse wall.
It’s all that’s left of the original prison from the 1870s.
I could’ve removed it, but I thought it was important to keep a sense of history,
so I asked the men to rebuild it.
They seem to enjoyit. It’s a matter of some pride now.
Sir? Yes? Please, on the table there.
请
Please.
来吧
Come on. Let’sgo.
I personally meet with every new inmate here at the prison.
Usually downstairs.
And I ask them a question.
What do you expect from your time here at the castle?
Nothing. Just to do my time and go home.
Perfect. That is the perfect answer.
And now I have what may seem under the circumstances, a bizarre request.
I have a collection of most of the seminal books on warfare,
including The Burden of Command.
And I was wondering if you would do me the honor of signing it?
Certainly. Thank you.
Captain Peretz. Yes, sir?
Two minutes.
That’s impressive. Yeah. It’s a great collection, isn’t it?
Yeah, sure.
That’s a miniball from Shiloh, used in battle.
Grant lost 13,000 men at Shiloh.
Suppose this got one of’em?
Never know. Do you?
I mean, do you collect anything?
No. Just a few coins from some of the countries I’ve traveled to.
My father didn’t care for military collections.
I guess it stuck with me.
Any man with a collection like this is a man who’s never set foot on a battlefield.
To him, a miniball from Shiloh is just an artifact.
And to a combat vet, it’s a hunk of metal…
that caused some poor bastard a world ofpain.
I must have misshelved it… your book.
We’ll do it another time.
No, please, please. Allow me.

Eight o’clock.
All’s well. Misty weather.
Here ye are, me lad. – Thank ye.
A press gang. A press gang!
The press gang! – Let’s get out of here!
In the king’s name!
Well, we got all the fish we need in one net.
Line them up, boatswain. – Aye, aye. Line up, lads!
Lads, bow your necks and weep. You’re in the king’s navy.
I’m no seaman, sir. I’m a tailor.
What’s that, your needlework? No chin music.
What ship, sir? – The Bounty, for the South Seas.
That’s the end of the world.
No, he sailed there with Captain Cook.
He knows the brown gals gay as kiss- me.
Who’s the captain? – Bligh.
Bligh! – Seize him!
How long will we be gone?
Till there’s enough frost in hell to kill snap beans.
How long is that, sir? I’ve got to know.
Two years, lad.
Please, don’t take my husband.
When we had a baby, Tommy left the sea.
He don’t want to serve in the navy.
It’s true, sir. – Sorry, the king needs six men.
You can’t take him! It’s like forever!
I can’t take them and not take him.
No, you can’t take him! I won’t let you!
Lass, lass. – It’s two years! No! It’s two years!
This is England’s new venture in science, in trade, in discovery.
Who else but Sir Austin Byam’s son should go?
But two years.
I understand, my dear. – Ship ahoy!
Bob.
Behold! The elder son of the sea and heir to all its oceans.
Uniform by Jeeves.
It’s so new, it creaks.
I’ll come back an admiral, with a necklace for you.
Pearls as big as coconuts.
I’ll name a nice shiny island after you, Sir Joseph.
I owe you for my appointment.
You’ve been appointed for one purpose:
To make me a dictionary of the Tahitian language.
I’ve made that clear to Captain Bligh.
What’s he like, sir? – Captain Bligh?
He’s a seagoing disaster.
His hair is rope yarn. His teeth are marlinespikes.
不错
Marlinespikes? Good.
Sounds rather terrifying.
But perhaps, as your father used to say:
“A taut hand at sea is better than a slack one.”
You’d have made a rare sailor, ma’am.
Why don’t you stow away, Mother?
I’ve considered it. Very seriously.
Well, here’s to the voyage of the Bounty.
To the voyage of the Bounty!
Still waters and the great golden sea.
Flying fish like streaks of silver and mermaids that sing in the night.
The Southern Cross,
and all the stars on the other side of the world.
Bless my soul. To the voyage of the Bounty!
Is that the Bounty?
No, sir. That’s the flagship of the fleet.
There’s your little pint- pot.
That’s the Bounty for Tahiti?
She isn’t very big, is she?
It ain’t the size that counts, youngster.
It’s the salt in the lads that man it.
Where’s your sweetheart, handsome?
She married a sailor.
It’s Ellison, sir. He tried to break ship.
On deck, Morrison. Churchill.
Aye, sir.
Break ship, would you?
I can’t face it, sir. Not two years.
I might not come back.
Then she’s left with the baby.
Flog me, send me to jail, but don’t take me, sir!
我不去
Don’t.
Now, listen to me, Ellison.
The sea’s hard, but you whistle it off.
and you’ll come home with the seals following in admiration.
I was like you when I first came to sea,
Cumberland moss all over me.
Now it’s turned to barnacles.
That’s better.
On this voyage, if you get in trouble, come to me.
I’ll see you get justice.
But if you’re wrong, look out for squalls.
Now, get your chin up.
Go on deck. Say goodbye to your wife.
You’ve got her aboard, sir? – And the baby.
Come on. Shake a leg. – Thank you, sir.
So you’re going to the South Seas, Jack? – Aye.
Here. Take this with you.
You can buy your own island. Ten shillings.
Ten? I ain’t seen the king’s face on a shilling for so long…
…I’ve forgotten which George it is,
but I’ll take it and pay you when I get back.
Sailor! You’re not coming back, not in this little half- walnut.
Here you are. Diamond brooch.
Real gold, mister, owned by Captain Kidd.
With a map of the treasure under the works.
Here. Stand clear with the tinware, Joe.
You keep leeward of the ship’s gentlemen.
All right, now. Ta- ta. Ta- ta!
Mr. Byam? I’m Fletcher Christian, lieutenant and master’s mate.
You’ll be my instructor. – Yes, in navigation and trigonometry.
You’ll have a watch, keep order,
go aloft to mend canvas, reef and furl.
Otherwise, your time is your own.
Mr. Christian, in my hands, the ship is safe.
I understand. “A little child shall lead them.”
Come along, I’ll show you below.

I don’t know what the country’s coming to.
Trying to be better than their betters.
I missed it by two minutes.
It’s my masterpiece.
How lovely.
You like it, ma’am?
I think it’s the most beautiful rose I’ve ever seen.
The shape. – And the scent.
Divine. And the color….
I adore red roses.
‘Tis said, as Cupid danced among the gods,
he down the nectar flung…
…which on the white rose being shed,
made it forever after red.
Wherever did you find that?
Hutter’s seed catalog, ma’am.
It’s pretty, but it ain’t true.
What goes to make a rose, ma’am, is breeding…
…and budding and horse manure, if you’ll pardon the expression.
And that’s where you come in, ma’am. – I?
I gotta have a name for it.
Oh, you want me to name it for you.
No, ma’am, I got a name for it…
…if you’ll give me your permission.
Why, of course. But I don’t see…
I want to call it the “Mrs. Miniver.”
If you’ll pardon me, ma’am…
…I’ve watched you go in and out of town for years now…
…and you’ve always had time to stop and have a word with me…
…and I’ve always waited for you to come home…
…and you remind me of the flower.
And I figured it’d be a very good name for my rose.
It’s a lovely compliment, Mr. Ballard.
I’d be very happy indeed to have you name your rose after me.
哦…
Well….
I really must go now. I’m terribly late already.
Goodbye, Mr. Ballard…
…and thank you. Thank you very much.
No, no, no, thank you.
I think it’s lovely having flowers named after you.
Goodbye. – Bye.
Thank you!
That’s my wife.
Good as new? – Well, almost, sir.
It’s a nice car, but afraid it’s a little more than I can afford.
Oh, I’m sorry, sir.
We have some nice cars in a cheaper bracket.
But I like this one.
Well, I’m going to take it.
Perhaps you’d better think it over.
No, I’m going to take it.
Will you bring it tonight? – Very good, sir.

I’ve taken the liberty, sir…
…of talking to the pilot of the amphibian.
I’ve checked the engine log. Plane seems to be in good shape.
I would not advise you to fly under any low ceiling, bird strike, or ice.
What’s bird strike?. -Flocks of birds. Hit, we’re dead.
Yes, especially this time of year.
I’ll be all right.
Is that a new watch?.
Yeah. Dual time zone. T ells the time in two places.
What for?.
If I’m in L.A. and want the time in New York, I don’t have to add 3.
You built this place by yourself.
Yes, ma’am. Been building it all my life.
Hey, Stephen.
This is what l’ m talking about.
See?. That’s what I want for tomorrow.
An unsentimental photograph.
T o get a truly unselfconscious photograph…
…you have to go back to the 1 9th century.
How old is that?
T ook it last fall.
That’s Jack Hawk. A friend of mine.
I took the photo. He took the bear.
Yeah. Why can’t you?.
What?.
Why can’t you get your rifle sighted in?.
I need to rig up a bench rest.
An ironing board makes a good bench rest.
No disrespect…
… I’ m surprised you know what a bench rest is.
Charles knows what everything is. Got a question, ask him.
Take a mighty accomplished man to claim that.
I don’t claim anything.
Ask him. See if I’m wrong.
Bet you can’t stump him.
Bet you I can.
I’ll tell you what…
… I will give you $5…
…you can tell me what’s on the other side of this blade.
It’s a rabbit smoking a pipe.
A rabbit smoking a pipe.
Why in the world would that be, Charles?.
It’s a symbol of the Cree lndians. On one side, there’s a panther…
…on the other, his prey, the rabbit.
He sits…
… unafraid.
He smokes his pipe.
It’s a traditional motif.
Why is he unafraid?.
Because he’s smarter than the panther.
先生
Sir…
…you impress me.
Thank you.
Amazing accomplishment.
No, it’s not an accomplishment.
It’s a freak. -ls that so?
是的
Yeah.
I seem to retain all these facts…
… but putting them to any useful purpose is another matter.
Hey, listen up, folks.
We got a problem with bears around here.
Now, never leave food uncovered, even in the lodge.
Never!
You see a bear near you…
…stand still.
Let him know that you know that he sees you.
Then back up…
… real slow.
Anybody’s in trouble…
…get my attention.
I’ll be on it like a duck on a June bug.
Now make yourselves comfortable.
On that note, I’m going to bed.
Shut up.
Lord, I’m bushed.
New book?
It’s about surviving in the wilderness.
You’re always reading something.
My secretary gave it to me. Do you know why?.
Do you know why she gave me the book?.
That guy gave me the creeps, with all that…
…talk about the bear.
Why she gave you the book?.
You’ re the salt of the earth.
Is that so?
You’ re a most excellent man.
That’s why I married you.
You’ re the only woman I’ve ever wanted.
Then see what a lucky guy you are?.
Yes, I do.
This is a special day for me. You know that?.
I know it is.
I’m really glad you came away with us.
You got to get away more often.
Can you go and get me a sandwich?.
Of course.

Look! Bleriot flying the Channel. He’s done it!
Has?
We’ll dine at the Cafe Royal.
We’ll dine at the Cafe Royal.
Thank you, Bridges.
Everything ready, Bridges? – Yes, sir.
I thought we should never get here in time.
I’m sure that cabbie was tipsy, Robert.
So am I. He called me his old cockalorum.
Oh, what did you say? – Gave him another shilling.
You didn’t mind our leaving the others and coming on home’?
Why, darling, I loved you for thinking of it.
I hoped you would.
Oh, Ellen, what lovely flowers.
They’re from Bridges and me, ma’am,
with our very best wishes, I’m sure.
Oh, Ellen. – Thank you both, so much.
Not at all, sir. It’s a… It’s a pleasure, indeed.
How sweet of them
to think of giving us flowers on New Year’s Eve.
Rather touching.
So touching that I almost want to cry.
Well, if you must.
This evening was planned sentimentally.
Sentimentally, but not tragically.
Splendid!
You’ll have to hurry up, cook, if you want to see them celebrations.
Now… Now, which would you wear, Mr. Bridges…
This nice porkpie hat or the lovely picture hat the missus give me’?
Well, why not wear them both and go as Lady Godiva?
You’re vulgar.
Oh, look what you’re doing,
squeezing that thing in people’s eyes nand blinding them.
You’ll be blinding someone if you went as Lady Godiva.
Oh? Indeed?
Watch your step, cookie, when you’re celebratin’.
You know what you’re like after you’ve had a couple of snifters.
Don’t be disgustin’, Mr. Bridges.
New Year’s Eve’s gone to her head and no mistake.
She’s been queer all day.
Says she feels like as if it’s the end of everything.
Oh, so do I, for that matter.
Oh, don’t start that all over again.
Oh, Alf, we’ve been so happy here in service.
Can’t bear to think
what it’s going to be like when you’ve gone to the war.
Well, don’t.
You were never cut out for a soldier.
Never mind what I was cut out for.
I am a soldier now, see?
What’s gonna happen to me and baby if anything happens to you?
Now, look here, old girl. You married me for better or for worse.
Not for this kind of worse, I didn’t.
You gallivanting in Africa, and me stopping at home.
Oh, you got a lot to take on about, I don’t think.
Look at the missus
and her brother out there in that there Mafeking,
besieged by them there Boers right from the beginning.
Not enough to eat, only horses and rats.
Yes, and now her husband’s going
and two growing boys to look after.
Have some sense.
Sense? What’s the sense in the war?
Nobody wanted to have a war.
We have to have wars now and then just to prove we’re top dog.
Now, stop arguing and help me get out this punch
or the bells will be ringing and they won’t have anything to drink.
You look so beautiful tonight.
Do I, Robert? – Only your dress, I suppose. Very deceiving.
Yes, Robert.
And the star in your hair. – And the star in my hair.
And the fact that I love you so very, very much.
After ten whole years and two enormous children,
how can you?
Perhaps you’re hideous and ill-dispositioned
and tedious really, and I never knew.
Perhaps. – Well, it’s too late now.
I’m set in the habit of loving you.
I shall never know the truth.
Oh, how wonderful our marriage has been.
Give the future a chance.
We don’t know if there is to be a future, now.
That’s a cheerful thought for the new century.
About as cheerful as the thought of being without you.
Oh, Robert, my dear, I shall miss you so.
What does it matter about the war, about the Boers?
It can’t matter, really.
Aren’t you forgetting about your brother Jim in Mafeking,
hemmed in by the Boers? – No, I’m not forgetting Jim.
But it does seem so desperately hard. – What does?
Nothing. I was merely behaving badly. – You?
You couldn’t behave badly.
I suppose this war will end someday. – Why, of course.
In a few months! – Perhaps it’ll be over before you get there.
Perhaps.
I believe you’d hate that.
I wonder if Jim’s still alive.
Of course he’s alive. They’re all alive.
Mafeking’s bound to be relieved soon.
Just on time, sir. Nearly midnight.
Put it down there, Bridges.
Stay and drink with us, won’t you?
Thank you very much, ma’am.
Thank you, ma’am. – That’s right.
Mum! – Oh, the children.
Sounded like Master Joe.
How very impolite of the 20th century to wake up the children.
Mum.
Oh, Joey, you awful child.
How dare you make such a noise.
Oh, darling, you haven’t got a pain, have you?
I want to see New Year. – Little boys mustn’t.
What would you say if I spanked you soundly and sent you to bed?
I would say, old woman that lived in the shoe.
And what would you say if I spanked you again
for calling your mother an old woman?
I would say nothing.
Mum, can we see New Year tomorrow instead?
Shh. You’ll wake up Edward.
By George, we ought to have the children down.
A new century is a new century.
Ellen, go and get ’em some milk to drink good luck.
Darling… – Shh. They’re asleep.

Since the beginning of time…
Since the birth of the first girl…
There were the dolls.
But dolls have always been…
Babies.
The girls who played with them always played the role of the mother.
Which is funny…
At least for a while.
Ask your mother…
This continued until…
Yes, Barbie changed everything.
And then he did it again.
These are all Barbies.
And Barbie is all of those.
She may have started as a lady in a bathing suit,
but something much bigger happened.
She has her own money, house,
car and career.
Since Barbie can be anything, so can women.
And this is reflected
to today’s girls in the real world.
Girls become women
who can achieve anything they put their minds to.
Thanks to Barbie
all the problems of feminism and equal rights
have been solved.
Or so the Barbies think.
After all, they live in Barbie Country.
Who am I to spoil their fairy tale?
And here’s one of those Barbies now.
She lives her best day, every day.
你们好
Hello!
When you play with Barbies
do not use stairs and doors etc.
You just put them where you want them.
You use your imagination.
Hey, Skipper! -Hey, Barbie!
Midge
Midge was Barbie’s pregnant friend.
We won’t show her because Mattel pulled her
because a pregnant doll would be too weird.
Anyway, Barbie has another big day ahead of her.
Hey, Barbie! -Hey, Barbie!
Hello, misses.
Tell everyone next to you how much you love her, give her a compliment.
Ask whatever you want. -How are you so impressive?
Seriously, no comment.
I love you guys.
The Nobel Prize in Journalism
go to barbie!
I worked very hard. I deserved it.
The Nobel Prize for Literature goes to Barbie.
You are the voice of an entire generation. -I know.
Money is not words and companies don’t even have free speech.
So when they invoke this right
they are trying to make our democracy plutocracy.
This makes me emotional and I express it.
I can be both logical and emotional at the same time.
And it doesn’t diminish my powers.
It develops them.
Hello, Barbie!
What can’t Barbie do?
Hello, Barbie!
Hello, space!
Barbie has a perfect day every day.
But Ken only if Barbie looks at him.
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Ken!
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Barbie!
Hello, Ken! -Hello, Ken!
Hi, Ken!
I got ice creams. – Fine.
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Barbie!
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Barbie!
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Ken!
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Barbie!
Hello, Barbie!
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Barbie!
Hello, Barbie! -Hello, Alan!
He’s got no brains, he’s just Alan.
是的…
Yes…
This confuses me.
Barbie, look here.
肯
Ken!
Ken? -Hey, Barbie!
Hello. -What did you see;
We’ve seen it all.
Let’s get you up.
You are strong. -Put some power.
Are you ok; -Yes just fine.
I guess the sea was still rough for you, Ken.
If I hadn’t knocked, I’d have kicked you out right now, Ken.
I kick you out whenever I want, Ken. – Hold my ice cream, Ken.
Come on, Ken, show me.
Let’s fight.
You’ll have to fight me first.
I have you both together.
You can’t leave here, do you want to kick us out together?
Why are you getting emotional?
Come on, Ken. No one will expel anyone.
好吧
Okay;
Let’s go.
来吧
Come on, okay.
You did well. -Do you still hurt;
You will be fine.
Let’s go! – Let’s go!
Barbie, hold my hand. -All good.
Stay with me, Barbie.
It’s not even broken. You’re fine.
After all, the waves are more dangerous. – You are very brave, Ken.
Thank you, Barbie.
I’m not even a surfer.
I know. -Not even a lifeguard.
As many think. – Indeed, they think so.
My job…
It’s the beach. -Correctly!
And you are so good at it! – You’ll be fine soon.
Basically, by the time I say this, you’re healed.
Fantastic. -Perfect.
Barbie; -Yes;
Should I come to your house tonight? -Of course.
I’m not doing anything. Only one
dance and song party, for all Barbies.
Come too.
Cool. -Yes!
Goodbye! -Goodbye!
Hello, Barbie. – Hello, Ken.
You’re fine, Barbie! -Thanks, Ken!
Hello, Ken! -Hello.
What does he say, Ken?
Barbie, look here!

Goyas Ghosts 2006
And these are actually for sale in the bookshops?
And in the streets as well, Father.
And in Toledo?
In Toledo. In Salamanca, Sevilla.
And in the Port of Cdiz.
So these prints are sent abroad?
These are sold in Rome. Even as far as Mexico.
This is how the world sees us.
This, this is how the world is seeing us.
What is the name of the artist?
Francisco Goya.
Isn’t he the man you commissioned to paint your portrait?
He is, Father.
Why did you choose him?
In all humility, Father, I chose him for the same reason our King and the Queen
have appointed him to be the Court painter.
They consider him the greatest painter in Spain.
These prints are quite disturbing, I must say.
Disturbing?
Yes, yes, of course they are.
But, Father, these prints
show us the true face of our world.
Maybe your world, Brother Lorenzo.
How can you call these hideous images
“the true face of our world”?
There is but one world, Brother,
and it is neither yours, nor mine. It is the Lord’s.
Have you lost your sight, Brother?
Do you not see what demonic filth and degradation this Goya is selling?
He’s an agent of the darkest powers!
Granted that he’s decorated chapels.
He’s painted angels, yes,
but when your mother raises her eyes to pray to God
whom do you think she sees?
Whom do you think Goya is using as models for his angels?
Harlots!
Those are whores smiling down at your mother from the ceiling!
I assert before all of you
that Goya is a valuable member of the Church.
How so?
Father, I have met women
who cannot recite a single prayer.
It’s them …We have to seek them out,
but what is our response?
Or do you think, by burning Goya’s canvases
the evil this artist has depicted will go up in flames?
Why don’t we look at ourselves?
What have we accomplished in the last 50 years?
How many heretics have we sent to the stake?
I will tell you exactly how many, Father. Eight. Eight burned at the stake.
Are you proposing we show greater severity?
Yes, Father, yes. We have to return to the old ways.
I’m talking about the God-fearing ways of the past.
Are you prepared to join this battle?
Never mind join,
grant me the wisdom to lead it, Father.
Why doesn’t that painting have a face?
Because he’s a ghost.
No, he is not!
Have you ever seen a ghost?
No. But I have seen a witch.
Oh, did you?
Yes, but she had a face.
What did she look like?
She was all bent and creepy, and she stank… Phew!
That’s interesting. Because the witch that I know
she’s young, very lovely, and she smells of jasmine.
She does? – She does.
And I’m working on her portrait right now.
I’m no witch!
How do you know?
Am I allowed to say something?
Please. – I know that face.
She would not be one of your angels in the Florida chapel, would she?
Yes, she is. You’re dangerously perceptive.
This is probably a very naive but I am a man of the cloth.
Do you…?
Do you painters not become very intimate with your models?
It must be very tempting…
when you spend hours and hours alone with, not only beautiful,
but young girl.
Would you like me to include your hands in the portrait?
I’ll leave that up to you.
No, it’s up to you to decide.
Hands are not easy to paint and not everybody will spend the extra money.
Well, what is the difference?
One hand, two thousand reales. Two hands, three thousand.
Why did you agree to paint my portrait?
Why not?
You have the reputation of mocking the men of cloth in your work.
And harshly, I must say.
Do I?
Are you aware of how many powerful enemies you have, Goya?
Fortunately, I also have a few very powerful friends.
出去！
go out! pull out.
How have you been, dear Goya?
As always, Your Majesty
So don’t complain.
I endeavor not to, Your Majesty.
Is this the wild steed that I am to conquer today?
Oh, dear!
So how do you want me to ride?
How do you want history to perceive you, madam?
The way I am, young and beautiful.
Which one do you wish for supper, my dear?
我看…
Maybe…
the vulture.
May I stay and watch you work for a while?
Why, if I may have any say in the matter, Your Majesty,
I’d prefer no-one see the work before it’s finished.
Am I intruding?
Yes, you are, my dear.
Oh, I see.
As you wish, as you will,
whatever is your pleasure.
How long do I have to sit up here?
For as long as I may need you there, Your Majesty.
See what I am carrying?
I must be a pious man, right?
But look at what is really inside this.
Voltaire! Voltaire!
The Dark Prince of the darkest principles!
Devious. Devious.
Be vigilant, use your ears. People talk.
You might hear somebody claiming that matter
consists of very small elements, called atoms.
Get his name. He’s a heretic

What is the goal of the life?
It’s to create yourself a soul.
For me, movies are an art…
more than an industry.
And it’s the search of the human soul…
as painting, as literature, as poetry.
Movies are that for me.
I wanted to make a film…
that would give the people who took LSD at that time…
the hallucinations that you get with that drug, but without hallucinating.
I did not want LSD to be taken, I wanted to fabricate the drug’s effects.
This film was going to change the public’s perceptions.
My ambition with Dune was tremendous.
So, what I wanted was to create a prophet.
I want to create a prophet…
to change the young minds of all the world.
For me, Dune will be the coming of a god.
Artistical, cinematographical god.
For me, it was not to make a picture.
It was something deeper.
I wanted to make something sacred…
free, with new perspective.
Open the mind!
Because I feel, in that time, myself, inside a prison.
My ego, my intellect, I want to open!
And I start the fight to make Dune.
You needed a touch of madness to do it.
You can’t have a masterpiece without madness.
Pink Floyd? Dali…
or Orson Welles or others!
Maybe Dune had too much madness?
But a movie that doesn’t have a bit of madness…
is not going to conquer the whole world.
I was in Paris with my wife at Jodorowsky’s house…
and having dinner…
and very late into the evening…
he goes if I wanted to see Dune.
我说：
And I was like:
“I didn’t know you made it.”
And he goes, well, he did.
And he pulls out, you know, the famous Dune book…
that apparently only exists… Two copies left in the universe.
And I then sat with him in front of me…
for a very long time and just went through the book…
and he would explain his thoughts and his ideas.
And, you know, when I heard about the team…
that he had assembled to make this movie…
sitting there at night, 2 a.m. at his house…
seeing the book, looking at the images…
and hearing Jodorowsky telling me…
what was gonna happen in every scene.
So, in a way…
I’m the only guy who actually ever saw Jodorowsky’s Dune.
I am the only spectator…
that has seen the movie.
And I’m gonna tell you something.
It’s awesome.
Dune is probably the greatest movie never made.
It continues to influence us…
and will go on influencing generations to come…
Despite the fact that it doesn’t exist, we cannot rent it, we cannot watch it.
What if the first film of that nature…
had been Dune and not Star Wars?
Would the whole…
mega-bucks blockbuster structure…
have been altered?
I think there’s this cliche phrase about movies being ahead of their time.
I think Jodorowsky’s Dune might’ve been the most ahead-of-its-time movie ever.
I don’t think that in the history of cinema…
there was ever a film that was taken that far, only to end up not being made.
To become a different film, since a film was made…
that had nothing to do with those two and a half years of work.
If Alejandro’s Dune could’ve been made…
it would’ve been bigger than 2001.
It was built up…
to be the greatest achievement in science fiction…
and it just evaporated…
into a billion small, black pieces of space.
In the beginning, I was making theater.
In Mexico, I make 100 theater plays.
In 10 years, I make the avant garde theater.
lonesco, Beckett, Strindberg.
改编
Adaptation…
Modern adaptations of Shakespeare, I do.
One day I will make a picture.
From the beginning of his film career…
what he was doing was driving people crazy.
His first film, Fando y Lis…
it premiered in Acapulco at a film festival…
and there was an actual full-scale riot. People went crazy.
It was so nuts that Mexico banned the film.
When I came to pictures…
I came like a virgin.
Without to know technical movement.
I didn’t know lens, the number. I didn’t know.
We shoot FandoY Us, hiding of unions.
In Mexico, a young director cannot make picture…
without the permission of the old director unions.
I say, “What I need to take the permission to make art?”
Artists need to be free! I do my picture!
Then was a great scandal later, eh?
Because I broke all the unions, I did it!
I was opening the mind of the industry.
Be prepared to live the most wonderful experience of your life.
El Topo is miraculous…
It’s violent.
El Topo is more than spectacle.
It is an experience for all of your life.
El Topo really was the original midnight movie, the original cult film…
the first movie that played exclusively at midnight screenings…
and drew a loyal cult audience.
What I find extraordinary about El Topo…
is it’s his first major movie, and Jodorowsky’s producing…
writing and directing and playing the lead…
and he gives himself that immortal line, “I am God.”
I was exposed to it in the underground cinema in New York.
And after that, we had the courage to attempt to distribute it in France…
